My attitude to the cars is similar to my attitude to my washing machine: I
have one because I need one. ....I don't wash them either, waste of time.

My sentiments exactly. When I see all these tanks on the road with a
single driver I think, "There goes the grand-kid's inheritance."
And I think that you shouldn't be allowed on this list unless you have at least
one camera that is worth more than your everyday drive. Condition of entrty.

It's everyone's business whether one of the largest economies pays a realistic
price for its energy.
Qualified agreement. I think that a bigger problem is the size of the
cars sold here. We need more fuel efficient cars and a tax on guzzlers.
No politician has the cajones though. Am I correct in thinking that the
European fuel price premium includes a lot of tax?
Sorry Chris C., but US fuel prices aren't low because of our supply.
