I shudder when I think of the number of books that I have, presently
numbering over 8,000. Every time I say "ENOUGH!" I find yet another desireable
volume in a thrift store or elsewhere. The latest was a clean first edition
copy of "Wanderer", the autobiography of Sterling Hayden. You may recall him
as General Jack D. Ripper in "Dr. Strangelove". He was also the leading actor
in Marylin Monroe's first movie "The Asphalt Jungle". He had an envious
background, being a captain of sailing ships prior to WWII, then with the OSS
in the Adriatic Sea during WWII, then motivated into acting after WWII.
