Over the last few months I have begun receiving an apparent new class of
calls from telemarketers. I've received recorded messages for years, but
these seem t be some type of smart system. Typical is the one I got last
night. Phone rang and I pick up. Receiver (land line) sounds "dead" at
first listen. I say hello, at which there is no response for a few seconds,
then a male voice comes on the line saying, "May I speak with Debbie?", who
is my wife. I asked, "May I ask who is calling?" Another pause for a few
seconds then a reply, "I don't have a message, I will call back later."
Hangs up. Spooky.
