Paul,

Having experienced similar (3 of us in a 12x12 room for 5 years), and the
attendant problems in getting useful work done, I've come to the conclusion
that management that doesn't understand the needs of their IT department in
terms of space is likely to be poor management. There are very few
businesses that can perform effectively--and survive--in the long term
without taking into account their need for IT services, and providing
adequate space and support.

Good luck. Although IT may be a cost center instead of a profit center, in
today's business environment, that cost center is no less vital. I am
(thankfully) out of that particular environment. And also, thankfully, as a
layoff due to "reorganization", which gives me time to find a better
position. The horror stories I have been hearing from my former employees
about the "improvements" put into place after my departure are a source of
good entertainment. Both of my former employees are hoping to be either
laid off, also, or that they find suitable new positions and can leave.
