Isn't there a function in some conversion/editing software to automate that 
process for groups of images with the same 
dust spots?

Certainly in PS, one could start recording an Action, spot one image, save the 
Action and run it on subsequent images.

Hummm. Did I just remember that the 60D has a dust mapping and removal feature? 
Oh well, haven't needed it as yet, if it 
does exist.
