Ken,

I would disagree with your assessment of the lack of common filter sizes in
the current lineup of Olympus lenses. It is certainly true that there is not
as much planning in this area as in the OM days. However there is some
standardization in each of the three grade groups (SG, HG, SHG).:

In the SG line the three most likely first acquired lenses all use 58mm
(14-42, 40-150 and 70-300).
In the HG line up the 14-54mm and the 50-200 are both 67mm (personally I
could live with just these two lenses if I had to). The odd ball is the
12-60mm at 72mm, but that is shared to the 11-22mm.
While in the top end SHG lenses the 14-35 and the 35-100 are both 77mm.

I will certainly concede that the wides, super teles and macro lenses fall
outside of these standards but for the work horse lenses of each grade there
is a common size. Having owned and or kept all of the above lenses (and
more... do I have a problem?) I will confess that I have just one filter
that I actually use and that is a 67mm polarizer.

1. New filters for each size lens. The art of using a common size for all
lenses within a lens family is long since lost on the manufacturers. My OM
Zuikos are all 49 or 55mm, except for the super-teles. In the case of
digital, I've yet to experience any two lenses with the same filter size.
