[OM] Question: Olympus vs. Generic lenses, fixed FL vs zooms?

Subject: [OM] Question: Olympus vs. Generic lenses, fixed FL vs zooms?

As I am cleaning and inspecting my collection of lenses, I have been
noticing something interesting and disturbing:

A good percentage of "generic" lenses, especially zooms, have haze somewhere
inside. The majority of Olympus lenses are fine. I just opened this Tokina
lens that looks brand new, in original box, etc. Like it's never been used.
I looked through a strong light source and, sure enough, haze is developing!
I am having a hard time finding a good generic zoom lens.

This brings up in my mind the following questions:

1. Are name brand lenses (Olympus for example) built better and suffer less
from haze vs generic lenses (Vivitar, Tokina, etc)

2. Are zoom lenses more susceptible to haze vs. fixed focal length lenses?

And what causes this internal haze?

Thanks,

George
