Hi Chris!

Nice to hear from you. I remember you and your photography, which I like a
lot.

Unfortunately, I also got sucked into the 4/3 digital stuff myself :)

3d photography and conventional 2d photography are a bit different and I
think 3d favors digital by nature. You cannot have nicely framed prints
with 3d. Your prints are restricted to 3x3 inch size, so they are really
small and you cannot do or show your art well.

In 3d, you either make very small prints (only a minority makes stereo
prints) or you use the computer to view 3d (I have a laptop with a 3d
screen) or in projection or (coming now) in a 3d TV (like a computer only
larger). These methods favor digital.

I resisted digital for a long time because there were no digital stereo
cameras. All my work was with slides viewed in 3d viewers or projected with
3d film projectors. But now there are stereo cameras and more are coming
out. Displays that show 3d are an option and are improving.

Our 3d club is now putting film and digital to equal footing. Even though
the viewing experience of a transparency is a good viewer is still superior
to digital viewing methods, digital is more convenient and the digital
viewing methods are improving. In a few years, very few people will still
shoot film in 3d.

George

Hey George, how's it going? I don't talk much on the OM list either anymore,
because most of the discussion is about the 4/3 digital stuff, which I have
no interest in. I pipe in occasionally when the discussion turns to film
gear or off topic stuff that interests me.
