My mom was on Coumadin (The fancy, prescription name for the rat poison
warfarin.). A constant fuss to keep the dose
right, so the blood level was enough for the desired thinning effect and low
enough that she didn't just start leaking
blood.
She ended up needing esophageal surgery (outpatient, thankfully). They had her
on a type of potassium supplement that
was catching in her throat and burning it. Combined with the Coumadin, she was
then leaking blood own into her GI tract
and had become anemic.
