I just whipped up a quick comparison of a problem slide in the Nikon
Coolscan V-ED.

First image is using NikonScan straight with no processing other than ICE
dust removal.
Second image is using NikonScan with DDE and ROC turned on.
Third image is using VueScan straight.
Fourth image is using VueScan with Multi-exposure.

I did make a mistake and didn't catch it until too late, but will redo it at
some point. The Vuescan output was sRGB whereas NikonScan was aRGB. All
further modifications and resizings and color-space changes for the web was
done in PWP 5.0.

The VueScan images look the same, but if you look at the border (plastic
frame) of the slide, you'll see that the straight VueScan scan was boosted
by the software (a bit of auto-exposure in processing) so the shadows show
no difference as compared to the multi-scan. Also, since the output color
space was sRGB, the shadow-detail of multi-exposure, was kinda lost as those
details were within the zone of loss in the sRGB color space.

At least it shows the flare.
