I don't know but perhaps so. But I would be leery of a surgical
solution since my eyes still seem to be rapidly changing. I was quite
surprised at the difference between prescriptions not much more than a
year apart.

It's also possible to correct astigmatism with contact lenses (the lens
is thicker and heavier on the bottom which keeps the lens properly
rotated). My first thought was that's a great solution. I could have
corrected distant vision and fall back on reading glasses and the
diopter adjustment alone for the camera. But I have discovered papers
on the web that report thinning of the cornea due to wear from contact
lenses. The cornea may become so thin that it's not possible to do
cataract surgery which requires a minimal corneal thickness. My father
has had cataract surgery in both eyes and both of mine show the early
stage of cataract development... at least in the eye exam. I can't see
any effects yet.

ps: I mentioned this downside of contact lenses to my ophthalmologist
during my recent exam and he professed not to know about it. But I
think he was playing dumb. The web is full of scientific papers that
discuss it.
