Indeed! There are good jobs available, but lots of problems as
well. Some schools and quite a few recruiters are seriously
dishonest, and all the problems you mention do occur. I've
had a few beer with victims.

It could be worse than that, too. I took a job teaching in Iran
in 1978,arrived just in time for their revolution, left in early '79,
two days before the Shah. Exciting and educational, but
definitely not recommended.

Probably the best bet for new grads are the government-run
programs like JET in Japan or the Hong Kong & Korean ones.
