The MF Nikkors work on the D3 exactly as designed, manual focus, auto
aperture at full angle of view, no adapter required. On D300 you lose
angle of view but all other features work there as well. A higher level
of integration than Olympus has achieved. One could actually argue that
the Oly lenses actually work better on some Canon models (retaining
angle of view.)
