James,

I have been very happy with the performance of the Microsync system. I have
two triggers and two receivers so I have backups when out in the field but I
have not needed it yet, I actually use both receivers most of the time now.
Though I haven't done formal distance checking I can say that in real world
use I have been able to trigger consistently through three walls within
buildings for a total distance was maybe 50 feet. I have not had misfires
other than failing to fully push the trigger on to the hot shoe (aka
operator error).

Other options outside the Pocket Wizard hegemony are include the Radio Slave
system from Quantum and the Elinchrom system (which has some out of this
world features).

None of the above have the cross product support that the Pocket Wizard
system has. For example some Sekonic meters have optional radio transmitter
modules and there is at least one monoblock flash system with built in RX. I
recently wrote to Sekonic asking if they would be supporting other flash
trigger systems but the disappoint reply was a big "no" on the grounds that
Pocket Wizard was the best and most popular (the chap did also note that
they were part of the same family of brands...). Sad really as I would
upgrade my L-308 in a heartbeat to the model that Chuck likes a lot if they
did support other trigger options.

HTH, Dan S.

I meant to reply to this one yesterday, but I think I was so bamboozled by
the link and that it actually worked that I forgot.

My question was and is, is there any radio flash slave currently on offer
between these hacked garage door openers and the Pocket Wizards?
There are others I've seen, but they seem to be designed to work with a
specific brand of studio flash. I'm looking for a bit more range.
