Thanks so much. it's not often that I laugh so much at something I've
written. I was, of course, simply being descriptive, but I like your
reading much better.

Outdoors, sunlight, default setting of -2/3 EV. Overcast, that sort of
flatter light, -1/3. But I cheat. I'm usually in spot metering mode, and
am quite happy to adjust exposure by aiming the camera to raise or lower
the brightness of the LCD image, half press, frame, shoot, chimp. Only
works when it's ok to lock focus at the same time, but that's pretty
often and it's much quicker and more intuitive to me than adjusting EV
on the fly - especially with the F10. One of the real improvements of
the F30 is the dedicated EV compensation button. And I've been known to
bracket when unsure.

The evolution of the F10 into the F30 is something very unusual in the
great swamp of digicams. It's like the designers actually used F10s for
a while and fixed pretty much every annoying flaw. Off the top of my
head, no more funny extra box for data and charger access, EV comp
button, iso moved to the top of the F menu, two Auto iso settings with
max of 400 or 1600 (remember there is now a 3200) and even a little,
Canyon style clip to keep the battery from falling out when you access
the xD card.

And of course, the A and S preferred and full manual modes from the
elusive F11.

They certainly were not imported into NA. I wonder if many were actually
made. I think based on the dcresource review of the F40 that the
F30/31fd may be the peak of the series before a final slide into a
giganto mp slough of despond like everyone else.

Oh, well, Kodak will save us all by taking the filters off many of their
tiny pixels to get some reasonable sensitivity and lower noise. Lower
chroma than luminance resolution actually works rather well.

Nice catch! Now that Carol Anne has full custody of the F10 and I make
sure it's charged and has room on the card. she's really improving as a
photographer when I'm not around. When I'm around, she's excellent,
combining her eye with my technical knowledge; "Oh, Moosie, look at that!"
