The repair will cost you $150 to $200 depending on how easy it is for the
repairer to get the shutter mechanism out for cleaning. The shutter most
likely just needs a very thourough cleaning of the mechanism and relubing.
If that's too much for you to spend, I'd demand a refund, any camera store
would know about a problem like that, they were dishonest.

I remember that ad, and really considered buying it. I'm very happy I did
not.
