Darin, Paul,

Some extensive list knowledge is accumulated in these FAQs:

which contains a link to:

In short:
the DIY recepy is to take the (most of the) cells from two 9V rechargable
batteries (the block shaped ones, used in 70's transistor radios).
They are significantly smaller and thus have a lower capacity. This of
course means that you can shoot fewer rolls on one charge, but if you don't
go beyond a dozen rolls a day, who cares. The positive side effect is that
the smaller cells result in a lighter control pack.

Of course only do these things yourself if you have the skills to do so, and
are confident enough to run the chance of permanently destroying your kit
and burning down the house.

Secondary discussions are:
* the choice between NiCd and NiMH; higher current & less auto discharge vs.
higher capacity
* how many cells you will put in. Stay with the original 14.4 Volts or fit
in a couple more of these smaller cells and beef up the voltage to 16.8 or
18. This does force you to an alternative charger.

Good luck,
Bart
