Well, maybe, in olden times and in some instances. But I'd bet a month's wages 
(easy for me to say since I'm retired) that my 100/5.6, 120/5.6 or 150/5.6 APO 
Schneider Symmars will come pretty close to equaling the best 35mm lenses in a 
head-to-head comparison of a 24x36mm crop from the middle of a 6x9 tranny.
