Northwest Environment Watch (now Sightline) is a great source for  
discussion of this nature. The director and his family were clients  
of mine.

We did end up buying a Mini, by the way. At the time it was the only  
vehicle available in the US that would fit in our single car garage  
along with my three motorcycles..... (You can get Smart Cars here  
now.) And it's a complete blast to drive. Now there's the Yaris and  
the Fit--both of which are longer than the Mini, and definitely not  
as cute, but more fuel-efficient.
