Silver-oxide chemistry batterys should give about 1.65v on a good digital
voltmeter. The working voltage is less because a good digital meter doesn't
put much load on the battery, but if you're getting 1.47v under those
conditions those batterys are toasted... even new batterys are sometimes
flat. You don't know how long they sit in the store's inventory... even the
'fresh until' dates are sometimes worthless.
