Be it young or not, it is certainly male. Where I come from, chicken
encompases both genders.

I wouldn't know one from another. This was just a bird I encountered and
took a a pic of. I had friends once out in the sticks who had many
exotic and wonderful varieties of showy chickens, but I never learned
their names, nor took their pictures.
