Remember, that's a very high end laptop. I just looked at the Dell Outlet 
and there is a very nicely equipped Dimension 4700:

P4-2.8
XP Home
160GB SATA Hard drive
512MB Memory

$394

You can reuse your components, but you're likely slowing down a new machine.
