For that use you can't beat the 135 with it's small size. Add a 2x for
decent reach. I have also had reasonable luck adding a close up filter
on the front of the 135 for a really light weight macro kit that doesn't
cut the light like a 2x macro. And yes, I did try out a 500/8 but sold
it. Later picked up a 350/5.6 from a list member but found out I really
dislike the bokeh of mirror lenses despite their good qualities.
