(disclaimer: the following is for amusement sake)

Let's see. If we crop a 36x24 frame to 4/3's we get 32x24mm.
If we assume 50lpmm resolution (averaging center and corner)
we get something like (assuming ideal nyquest sampling)
100x32 x 100x24 = 7.7megapixels. Or the reverse: 2560x1920
E-1 image 2560/32 = 80 or 40lpmm. We're really not that far
away (50lpmm for film, 40lpmm E-1, in the ideal).

Now if we take the 21/2 at 80lpmm center we would need:
160x32 x 160x24 = 19.6 megapixels (whoa) No wonder CH's
comparison using the 21/2 against the E-1. Now you factor in
all the crumby scanners out there and maybe you get 12mp?
(Data taken from http://homepages.caverock.net.nz/~bj/zuiko/index.htm )

The lpmm (line pairs per mm) goes as the square root of the
pixel count or pixel count goes as the square of resolution (lpmm).

Conclusion: The E-1 can be very acceptable, as well as fun. How
many shots do you take that actually gets better than 40lpmm?
(CH don't answer that, we already know :-) And look at the 90/2
close focus data...
