Hi Tim,

I had what sounds like exactly the same problem with my OM-4.  When I posed
the same question to the list I was told that it was due to a shutter
curtain brake problem.  The brakes for the shutter curtains are not in sync
and the rear curtain starts to catch up with the front when they slow down
as they pass the film plane.  Hence the string that connects the two
curtains pinches together and appears in the shot (quite faint and out of
focus but definitely noticeable).

I'm sure some of the technical experts or more eloquent among us can
provide a better description.
