Not replace, add to. The Tamron 2x Adaptall teleconverter, Model 01F, makes it into a 180/5 that focuses directly from infinity to 1:1 with the lens's built in helicoid. The extra distance from the subject can be quite useful. The 1.4x, Model 140F, can also be used to make it a 126/3.5 that focuses to 1:1.4. I've never used that combo, always the 2x.
