I've been using a Leki walking stick for some time. I don't know the model, but it had a wood ball on top that screws off the 1/4-20 tripod thread stud. I replaecd the ball with a Bogen 3232 monopod head, which is perfect for the job. The head only has vertical angle adjustment, as you can simply spin the 'pod for azimuth, with a nice big knob for tightness adjustment. It's very light and inexpensive and even has a reversable thumbscrew with both sizes of tripod screw thread.

Last year I bought a Leki Makalu(?) Photo hiking pole in the UK, where the
handgrip screwed off to reveal a 1/4" screw for a camera tripod bush (or
ballhead).
