Double lead bags make the security people very understanding. They've
even hand checked my shoes a time or two. I didn't even ask!

I always put my camera bag through the scanner, stall a little bit, then
put my double bagged film on the scanner. My film has been hand searched
everytime, and my lead bags have probably been sterilized. They always
end up backing up the conveyer belt, taking a long second look, then
tell me they need to hand check my film. It has even encouraged them to
hand check my shoes. Arrive with time to spare.

The lead bags are heavy. They stay in the car or hotel room except when
going through the airport.

The flash cords seem to often trigger a hand inspection. It might be
wise to have a small bag containing the flash gear that could be run
through separately also.

YMMV

Yeah, well.....I was carrying Provia and some Technical Pan. Had an
Ilford 3200 ISO in the bag as well, just for good measure (and to
have something that read "really fast film" on the label). And I did
state "professional film" but that did not help much.

The security guys at Gatwick were not understanding to either of the
above. In most other airports they are.
