i have had the same thing happen on both my -1n and -1 MD. at present i
have not discovered the verifiable reason, but i suspect that it happened
when i was moving the camera when attached to the tripod. maybe the "shock"
of putting it firmly on a hard floor surface may have knocked something.
since then i have always taken the bodies off the tripod and have carefully
handled them. no problems since...
