The old (1979-1984) 17mm uses a 20FH hood.

The newer 17mm (1989-2000) uses a B6FH.

But does the old model have a dedicated hood itself?

Yes, it does. I've owned the older Tamron one and liked it just fine however
sold it at the recent Houston Camera Show. If going with Tokina lenses, I
think I would stick with the AT-X series. Were I to buy another, which may
happen, I'd go for the older Tamron one as it takes filters without the hood
and I have some Cokin P size filters that I'd like to be able to use with
most of my lenses. The 18mm Zuiko is what I use for superwide and I like
this lens. I also use the 21mm and 24mm Zuikos and like the 21mm filling
the slot between the 18mm and the 21mm. Bill Barber

Thanks Bill. Is it a slip-on hood?
I think I will get an older Tamron one of these days...
But these 18 and 21 Zuiks are sooooo appealing ;-)
