Thanks for your comments Roger. I scanned the slides using a
Canoscan FS4000 at the max resolution (I choose a time when I can get
on with other jobs and leave it to do its stuff) and reduced them. I
have a feeling that I make more of an effort with the manual focus
rather than leaving it all to the autofocus. I must put the better
pictures onto my own website, once I have decided on a design and
colour scheme. The .Mac site is a good stopgap though.

I might give Ryanair a go then. However, my heart for our next
holiday is to drive to Scotland and to get lost on the West Coast.
My father was descended from Barlass (the Bonnie Prince's clan, part
of the MacDonalds I understand) and I think that my soul belongs
there. My wife, however, thinks that she can only take so much of
the dark skies and rain... ;-). When I get some new tyres for my
ML270 ( a 4x4) I really want to go green-laning as well, in an
ecologically friendly way of course.

Cheers

Chris

Some really striking photos on your pages, Chris. I particularly
liked 407/07 and 407/23. Despite your claim that the photos don't
do the place justice I am certain they must do - beautiful. I've
never been to Granada but a friend of mine recently went and also
was hugely impressed by the Alhambra. It's certainly on my wishlist.

I recall that a while ago you asked about the sharpness of the
photos. From what I can see they look pretty sharp, though in some
cases not perhaps ultra-sharp. Are they from a film or flatbed
scanner? And did you scan at maximum resolution and resize down, or
scan at a lower resolution?

Sorry to hear about your bad experience with Easyjet. I haven't
flown with them, but have now flown twice with the cheapest of the
cheapo airlines, Ryanair, and I have nothing but praise for them.
In fact, I've got another four trips booked with them in the next
two months! The flights aren't luxurious but I've found them
perfectly comfortable and pleasant for the short flights, and having
spent only just over 200 pounds in total, taxes and all, for return
flights to Oslo, Salzburg, Dublin, Stockholm, Alghero and Trieste I
find the prices very agreeable!

Well, there is nothing wrong with 4 x 6" prints in my view. They
show the whole picture without having to move back 6 feet and they
do not demand hugely fine grain film to enjoy. But we *can*
enlarge our photos if we wish and I enjoy doing so now, whether in
the darkroom or on the Mac. I have just printed on A3 a photo of
the Alhambra Palace (in Granada, Spain) on my Epson 1290. Although
there is some curvature on the photos (it was a 35/2 pointed
upwards to include the new moon), the overall effect is pleasing.
The quality of the lens is such that the enlargements is good. It
is picture no 407/17 at
http://homepage.mac.com/zuiko/PhotoAlbum3.html. The print is on a
wall in my house, but so are a number of 4 x 6 prints in smaller
frames.
