Ah!  I think I got it.  If one is shooting 1/2 life size, then for a
light source that produces f16 on the subject, I would need f24?  I was
thinking that when one is doing 1:2 I should use 2 instead of .5!  Boy,
was I off!

Effective f# = (m+1)*(marked f#), where m is magnification
In stops, it's log((m+1)**2)/log(2)
