If I had a scanner, the place to put them, and the time (all of them are in europe in storage with my family at the moment anyhow) I'd scan some of the "jokes" taken with the same beaten up R'35 over a 10+ year period. Many of them would give any 35mm material (shot with similar focal length and the same film) a run for their money - or better. I took many shots even at night.

I NEVER recall even using the meter, because I didn't trust it. Perhaps this is why I didn't have too much trouble judging distances in feet and inches ;)

Are your guy talking about the R'35 with 40/2.8 lens but W/O a range
finder! I can't see how I can use a 40mm f2.8 lens for shooting
without a range finder, just a joke! To me W/O a range finder sharp
picture can only be made at heavy stop down or shooting at infinity.
But I can use my XA at F2.8 wide open shooting portrait at night and
that happen quite often.
