 Ah, right, of course I can adjust it in that direction as well as
re-tightening it. Currently I just open the clamps with my hands held in a
weird contorted but out-of-the-way position, which works, but looks silly
and takes rather longer than it seems like it ought to.

 Mine was in a box, and it's still pretty hefty to do up/undo -- given how
light OM kit is, it should be possible to loosen things up fairly
substantially without worrying about them sliding around.
