Stop bath arrests development immediately. It neutralises the developer and
thus increases fixer life - CONSIDERABLY!!. Its cost is negligible and is
hardly inconvenient to use.

Any idiot that used fingers, wether covered in cotton gloves or not to
agitate and transport prints wants his / her bumps felt. A set of tongs cost
a couple of quid last a lifetime and they stop contamination, skin
irritation, the danger of accidently getting chemical in your eye and the
constant wiping of wet fingers and hands on an ever increasingly dirty
towel.

I generally find that it is the people who try to take short cuts with B&W
printing that get disillusioned the quickest. Try to do it properly, be
consistent in all things, particularly time and temperature and, of course,
technique.
