I could about hire a painter to make me an 18 0ray card last I checked!

open your favourite image editing prog. get a fresh page, large, rectangular, size of sheet of paper. fill with 128 R, G and G. print on laser printer or b/w inkjet (or colour, but monochrome mode). glue to cardboard.
voila..

wont last long, but hey ;)

or meter your palm, open up a stop. voila. i do that all the time

You have to standardize your palm. Mine does not correspond to 18 0ray.

You could also cut a ping pong ball in half, glue it to a filter ring, and put random black dots with a pen on the inside until the reading matches the reading from a gray card. Fits better in a gadget bag.
