[OM] To digital or not to digital

Subject: [OM] To digital or not to digital

I've come to the conclusion that my primary camera "system" will
remain film until:

1. Sensor speed is both adjustable and high enough to compete
with every film from ISO 25-3200.

2. Sensor size is full size. No "telephotoing" allowed.

3. Technology doesn't obsolete in 24 months.

4. A digital "negative" LCD panel is available for my enlarger
for B&W darkroom work.

5. Battery life is in the 12 hour range.

It makes little sense for me to change "systems" until the
technology meets and exceeds every capability in my current
system. In terms of outputting to prints, digital has arrived,
but in terms of complete flexibility, it has a ways to go.
There is more to a camera than the image capture device/medium.

I believe that in the next 24 months we will see full-frame
24x36mm sensors with sensitivy in the ISO 1200 range and a
6-8mpixel count. Why invest in something less than that right
now if I don't need it. The E-10/20 is a wonderful bridge
camera if you must go digital immediately.

I look at it this way, my OM system has long since been paid
for, everything works (with occasional CLAs), and it is just as
obsolete as it was 15 years ago when I bought into it. It's not
going to get anymore obsolete than it is now.

Thought for food:

126, 127, 110, disk, APS... They keep coming and going, but
120/220 and 35mm are still around and probably will be for a
long time yet. Hope you all didn't spend too much on that fancy
APS camera. Digital is killing that format.

Sometimes it doesn't hurt to remain a dinasour. Besides, I'm
looking forward to Tom's Fire Sale when he dives completely into
a digital system.
