My mother has a Spotmatic and it is definitely bigger than an OM. It may be that the OM stirred up the SLR makers and prompted a move to smaller and lighter bodies. I know that Pentax makes pretty small "bricks" these days.

My first camera was a Spotmatic. That was in the days when quite a few real
photojournalists used them, although they were going to the Nikon F in
droves soon after. I had sold my Spotmatic 5 or 6 years before I got my wife
got her OM1, which is what got me into OM's in the first place, but I
remember the Pentax and its lenses as quite a bit bigger, although they were
light.

I've still got my Nikons, and, although at the time there seemed to be a
large size difference, now it seems modest. Compare a Nikon f with an F5!
