Donald,
Dunno why a light goes to one part of the film rather than another, or at one time and not another, but I know that a missing MD cap can be the source of such problems. It seems like the problem could appear on the film almost anywhere. I do know that I have experienced a light leak problem with the absence of the MD cap.

I guess try to see if the problem recurs with either the cap or a winder in place?

That possibility occurred to me as well, as I think I
may have had the cap off since I was using my winder 1
some of the time. But why would the light be coming
from the top side of the camera (bottom of image is
top of camera, right?) And it only occurrred on a
handful of images on that one roll, and if the cap was
off, it was off for that whole roll.
