I tend to agree. When my 35-70/3.5-4.5 was stolen along with lots of other
OM-goodies in August 99, I first replaced it with an 35-105/3.5-4.5, as I
got a very good deal on one on German eBay. I really like this excellent
lens, and sometimes the extra 35 mm come in extremely handy - the only
things that bother me about it are its size and weight, and that it is a
one-touch, as I generally like two-touch zooms much better.
So when I happened across another real good deal for a 35-70/3.6, complete
with hardcase and original hood, I couldn't resist. I now had a two-touch
again, with an outstanding optical quality for a zoom; IMHO better than many
(at least non-Zuiko) primes.
However, I still missed the unique contrast (while the 3.6 has better
resolution, I like the contrast of the 3.5-4.5 better), elegance, lightness
and compactness of the 35-70/3.5-4.5 (which also make it ideal for
motorcycling, when packing space is limited).
So the unavoidable happened - a few months ago I finally managed to grab one
LNIB (I'd rate the other two EX+, by the way) in another auction.

So I now have replaced the stolen one with three others (quite similar to
the OM-2n stolen along with it, which has been replaced with an OM-1, an
OM-4, and a 2n - seems I've got the disease real bad :-) ), and each of them
has its own charm (of course, as they're Zuikos), so I really can't see
myself parting with any of them (fortunately, I got each one for about half
of the average going price here on the list, so the gap they tore into my
pocketbook did not quite ruin me).

However, if I needed one and had to make up my mind for just one, I'd either
go with the 35-105, for the extra length, or with the 35-70/3.5-4.5, for its
compactness and versatility.

Volkhart

P.S.: In case some of y'all have wondered - I've been rather inactive on the
list (as well as with all other non-business e-mail) recently as I was (in
fact, am) being flooded with work the last few months. While this is very
good for my finances, it leaves me little time for list-reading, so I have a
backlog of about 5000 postings which I now had to give up on for the time
being - they have been moved into my archive hopefully to be read later, and
I'm now trying to at least keep up with what is coming in newly.
