John,

There are five lenses, four 'classes of quality'.

35-80 f/2.8 --- no comparison to the other lenses. One of the best zooms
ever made. Equal to any prime lens

35-70 f/3.6 -- best quality of the 35-70, very crisp and sharp, great lens,
heaviest of the 35-70

35-70 f/3.5-4.5 - the lenses are similar quality, but the 3.5-4.5 is the
favorite - smaller and lighter
35-70 f/4

35-70 f/3.5-4.8 - Cosina trash. Best used as a paperweight.

If I remember correctly, the 35-70 f/3.5-4.5 and the 28-48 share the same
'lens body' or awfully close.

If price is no object, go with the 35-80. Otherwise, hunt for a 35-70/3.6
or a 35-70/3.5-4.5 (my favorite)

I've owned every one of them and the only one I kept was the 35-70/3.5-4.5.

Tom
