The needle seems to accurately indicate the actual stop that's being set. At
f2 there's just a tiny 'frame' of iris blades showing when viewed from the
front of the lens, but when f4 or smaller is selected manually the blades
form just a tiny hole (and an indicated f16 in the viewfinder). I can get a
range of intermediate stops by slightly nudging the aperture ring from f2.8
towards f4. The apertures seem to be fine when using the flashmatic mode,
stopping down gradually as I move the focus ring towards 3 feet. It doesn't
go wider than 2.8 when going the other way though, even at infinity.

They don't look wet but they are bright and shiny and there's a narrow dark,
matt-looking smear of some residue close to the edge of each visible shutter
blade. The iris blades are totally matt charcoal grey.

Yes, just the merest blink at 500 and it's nicely progressive down to 1/8,
with 1/2 and 1 a bit slow.

Thanks John.
