I would probably use infrared sensitive 'black-and-white' film, scan

Just like we meteorologists do (except for the film, of course) with
infrared satellite images of the clouds above the earth surface.

Don't miss this great site for infrared photography (and for many more
optical issues) of Willem Markerink:

You will a lot of useful things there! Maybe all your questions will
be answered after a visit...

I would like to make photographs of a house showing the glass in the windows
glowing red from the escaping radiant energy of the heat in the house. Color
would be great, but B/W would be acceptable. What is the consensus on film,
filters, etc. I don't have a darkroom so, any thoughts on where to get the
stuff processed after I shoot it? Thanks.

Unfortunately, if you look at the FAQ from the above site
<http://www.a1.nl/phomepag/markerink/heat_faq.htm> you see
that it's unlikely wou will actually get pictures of escaping
heat -- unless there's a smoldering fire inside. The heat scans
one typically sees are made by IR sensors cooled anywhere from
20 to 200 K below ambient.
