The Vivitar 3500 is not as powerful, though it is a little more versatile
in some ways, though the comparison is still a little bit apples and
oranges.  The price of the T32 is very good.  I'd buy and try it and then
sell it if you don't want it.

I gladly paid $90 for one -- glad at the time.  I'm less glad now that I've
got real lenses to cover the range I was interested in when I bought it.
It's somewhat optimized for lenses it goes with, as you've noted.  That
optimization is what you pay for and you'll find that out when you compare
it to the Viv 2X.  Again, I'd say buy, try it, sell it if you don't like it.
