Leave it on a shelf where it can be reached by air, much more than a week 
may be needed. Any vegetable charcoal in the room may help in order you
don't smell it too much. Clean the esterior of the lens with tissue lens and
some alcohol. If you can see the brown of tar you may assume there is any
inside the lens too and begin to worry about a professional cleaning.
