It is a pain for users, but useful for machines. I would say rather that
URLs are a "user interface botch," since they are used both by machines and
users.
It is nice that URLs are case sensitive when you are generating dynamic
HTML -- let's face it, who ever even LOOKS at the URL for such things as
eBay links? Unfortunately, users also type them in.
