It is not necessary to take off the top to clean the viewfinder.

The screens of all the 1 digit OM bodies can be cleaned by removing
the screen. Unmount the lens and look for the small tab at the front
of the focusing screen. Pushing the tab towards the lens mount will
let the screen swing down in its frame. Screen and the lower side of
the pentaprism can then be blown clean. Take care not to smudge the
mirror.
