 Fair enough

No it is not, it is service to other list members, like John
Gardner's recent public spirited generosity in finding a stash of OM2 motor
drive
socket covers and a T32 calculator panel and offering them to those in need.

I'm split on this. I don't think it is necessary to post to the list items
seen on the internet, be it eBay, rec.photo.marketplace, or whatever. Even the
big stores with web sites (KEH, B&H, etc...) Everyone here is capable of
finding these things if we want.

OTOH, things people find in local shops that might be of interest, are useful.
Assuming, of course, the poster is willing to serve as a go-between and
establish contact between the buyer and seller, or purchase the item and
resell it.

No, unless you are volunteering to host and run the new list.

I don't think we need to split the list. The total amount of commerce that
goes on here is quite small. I would suggest if you want to sell something,
put "FS:" in the subject, "WTB" if you want to buy something, etc... The
traffic on this list seems to have moved up a notch or two recently. Putting
in useful subjects, and updating them as conversations change, which they
inevitably do) will make it much easier for people to decide what messages
they wish to read, and which ones they don't.

I'll get off my soapbox now.
