Metal will not compress to give a snug fit. It will also probably scratch
the bottom of the camera.
The spacer is 2 inches wide for more surface contact. It is smooth on one
side and nubby on the other.

If you cannot get the screw out. Then you can just file off a fraction of an
inch, 1/2 thread or so, of the end of the screw. This should work.
