Hi John and All,
Well, I guess it is time I vented my thoughts on the screen issue. A lot of
talk lately about how bright the new OM 2 series and the Beattie's are and I
have no argument. I just question how important this "Brightness" feature
really is. I have no experience with the Beattie, but have used the 2-13 for
the past 8 months in my 3Ti. I will probably get blasted for being stupid or
something, But - well, I took it out and put a 1-10 (grid) in. I shot 8 rolls
last week, mostly with my 300 f4.5 and a 180 f2.8 and I noticed a big
difference in my ability to focus. As I see it, it is more important to have
the focus just "POP" in. If you know what I mean. The 2-13 just did not have
this, I think the matte is just too fine.
I agree with Lee and George that the grid is probably the best all around
screen made for most lenses. On the other hand, the 1-3 (split) is great for
indoor flash work and the 1-2 was always used when I had a OM1 dedicated to my
85-250 Zoom. I do have a 1-8 in an OM3 dedicated to my 500mm and will not
change. Although it is not as good as the 1-4n or 1-10 with the 300mm, I
rarely use it with those lenses.
To answer you John, the grid gets my vote. If the Beattie's do not have such
a fine matte that you loose that "POP" in focus ability.
